Hello from behind the bar

Firstly welcome, welcome to the new website and what will be a hub of information on all things cocktail and all things Tom Thumb.

For those that don’t know me I am Jamie. I own Tom Thumb and have been behind the helm for coming up on 5 years now. I’m there most days and you can’t miss me – I have a big beard and a daft haircut (I’m blaming lockdown but secretly I quite like it).

I have been in the hospitality trade for over 20 years and I’m lucky enough to say that it has taken me around the world and given me the opportunity to experience so many wonderful cultures and places. I have dipped out of the trade on the odd occasions to see if I’m suited to something else but I always find my way back.

So, I followed my heart and opened a bar, a dream I’ve had since my first job in a pub in North London at the age 18. Since then, it has taken me on a journey that includes French ski resorts, boutique hotels in Australia and a small cocktail bar in Aspen, USA to name a few locations. It was there in Aspen that I dabbled in the world of mixing spirits and the creativity was intoxicating and I’ve been playing ever since.

Fast forward a bit and you find me here, writing to you all from my home, bars closed, pandemic in full swing and I have to pinch myself to remember the good times! But rest assured dear friends, they will return and I plan on being right at the front of the queue to open the doors to Tom Thumb and let you have the time of your lives (safely of course).

It’s been a tough year for everyone and I hope that however you dealt with it and whatever trials and tribulations you have come through that you have been kind to yourself and know that you did the best you could with what you had at hand.

But onwards!!!

These blog posts are for you all to learn a bit more about me and the bar, to pick up some knowledge on cocktails and I’ll be throwing in some recipes and cocktail ideas for you all to try should the fancy take you.

So crack on to the next blog post and see the first of the few recipes and ideas I’ll be sharing with you.

But for now, stay safe, stay healthy and I’ll see you on the other side.
